Do you know why we are so distracted when we listen? Words are spoken at the rate of 90 to 200 words per minute! The difference between the speach and the thought explain why we have a short attention span. Our mind has a tendency to wander.
You can concentrate better when you think in terms of questions. Here are a few simple questions to ask yourself when someone is speaking:
What are they saying?
What does it mean?
What point are they trying to make?
How does it relate to what I want to know?
How is this helpful to me?
How can I use this information?
Does it make sense?
Am I getting the correct story?
Do they give me proof of what they are saying?
How does this relate to what I already know?
Always make time to question the speaker either before or after the presentation. You will be amazing on how you will get free valuable consulting information by just being genuinely interested in what they have lectured about!
