Motivating Your Staff

If you are a business owner, you will eventually need staff help. These employees can be part-time, full-time, or even virtual, working from a remote location. All of them will need some motivation at one time or another.

One big lesson that you need to learn now is that people will not change their behavior unless it makes a difference to them. You can change the consequences that will then effect the external behavior they demonstrate. What you can do is motivate and reward good behavior.

On the average, workers perform at their peak at least 80% of the time, but it is in the balance of 20% that you, the employer typically find fault.

Make sure that you reinforce positive behavior and do it often. Have negative consequences in place that will keep bad behavior in check. Keep in mind that good behavior that goes un-noticed will have a tendency to decrease after a period of time. Make sure that you use praise on a regular basis!

Expend your time and energy on building a positive force in the workplace. It will pay off richly in employee loyalty and satisfaction.
