If you are wanting to learn how to sell on eBay, now is a good time. Although selling on eBay is old hat for many, it can be confusing for someone just starting out.
The trick is to keep your focus and during difficult times remember what you started out to do. If you stick with it, you will learn how to overcome obstacles and eventually success will follow.
Open an eBay Account The first step toward selling on eBay is to open an eBay account. Signing up on eBay is a very easy process and takes only a few minutes of your time. Choose a user ID that is easy to remember but don’t spend a lot of time trying to come up with the perfect user ID. You can always change your user ID later. Once you open an account, you should buy a few items to get the feel for how things work, and to build up your feedback score. Most buyers are hesitant to bid on products from a seller with a zero feedback score…
Find Something to Sell Finding something to sell at first is difficult for some, but remember that just about anything can be sold on eBay. Find something in your own home or garage that you no longer need or want, and sell it. You can also find stuff to sell at local garage sales and estate sales. If you choose this route, stick with inexpensive items at first until you get a feel for what is profitable to sell online.
Research, List & Sell Your Items You should always research items before listing them on eBay. Use keywords and search the eBay site for completed listings. Study auctions that sold items similar to yours to get an idea of how much money you can expect to get for your item. Similar successful auctions will also help you in designing the auction, although you should never plagiarize anyone else’s auction or use someone else’s pictures as this would be a copyright infringement.
PayPal eBay now requires sellers to use PayPal, so you must have a PayPal account to sell on the popular auction site. It is easy to set up a PayPal business account, but it does take a few days, and you must have a bank account, preferably one that includes online banking. Finding Sources for Products Finding product sources is one of the most challenging parts of selling online.
I’ve already mentioned that you can find products to sell around your own house and garage. Purchasing items at garage sales, estate sales, and local auctions are other sources for finding products. When your friends find out you’re selling on eBay, they’ll probably want you to sell their products for them, too.
Shipping Products Once the item is sold, you should always wait to receive payment before shipping the product. As soon as the product is paid for, it is very important to provide fast shipping. Customers want and expect their items to be shipped as soon as they pay for the item, preferably within 24 hours.
As a seller, you want to be concerned with customer feedback and making your customers happy, since happy customers often become loyal customers. Would you like to learn about the top selling items on eBay? You can download the free Guide here: Secret eBay Niches
